They need a lot more space and take longer to slow down and stop, so it's also our responsibility to know what we're doing and stay safe on the road.

Here are some quick reminders if you find yourself sharing the road with a truck.

Firstly, leave two lanes for trucks when they're turning corners or roundabouts.

If you're overtaking a truck, wait for a long stretch of road and make sure there's at least three cars worth of space in between you both when you pull back in front.

Lastly, stay out of their blind spots.

Avoid driving right in front, behind and to the sides of the truck's driver and passenger doors.

It's normal to feel anxious near trucks, but all we need to do is give them heaps of space.
