But then I have them and I remember that they're totally fine.

I had one bad one in the days where it was done really rough and now they're plastic, they're streamlined, they are so much less uncomfortable.

And generally, I find that if you ask them,

to only insert it when you breathe out, your muscles relax and you're less clenchy.

That's a really good tip.

But what I would say is if you have been putting off your cervical screening, I get it.

I really, really do.

But it's just one of those things that you just need to do.

You just need to do it.

I totally understand why...

It's so easy to put it off, but I'm just going to be your bossy aunt and say, just do it.

Do it.

Organise it now.

What I have learnt is that the more relaxed I am, so I'll ask them to take their time.

I'll say, when I say insert, insert.

So I'll take a big, deep breath in.

And then I breathe out, and that's when they insert the speculum.

And then it's utterly pain-free.
