Even though some employers might say, well, they should be grateful for jobs right now.
This is a cooling job market.
Who cares if people feel like they're stuck?
At least they have work.
HR chiefs who have been doing this for a while say that's not the right view because when the job market does heat up, people are going to go elsewhere.
They're going to go to sort of employers that
help them continue to develop, that help them to continue to grow.
And so if companies can do anything possible right now to make jobs a little more interesting, I think that'd be welcome among employees.
Part of it is having an open conversation with your boss.
I was talking to somebody who advises a lot of companies.
She works at McKinsey.
She was telling me that it's just having a good one-on-one conversation with your manager of just saying, hey, I'd like to do a little bit more of this.
I'd like to refine my skills in these areas.
That is something that's very doable.
Your boss might not be able to give you a new title.
They might not be able to give you more money, but they can probably help you work on something.
They can help you
you know, achieve more in your current role.
So having that conversation is key.
The other thing is just to look around, to be open, to kind of have your ear to the ground at a company, to know what else is going on in an organization, to think about where could you add value?
