bosses realize that you can't just keep people in place, even great employees.
I mean, I think a lot of bosses don't want to give up their star performers, but the more enlightened leaders know that's not a recipe for making people sort of fulfilled in their careers long-term.
You've got to make sure that people feel like they're still growing and developing, even if you and your selfish desires might prefer to keep them with you forever.
Bosses are realizing that
They have to have these one-on-one conversations with employees.
They have to figure out ways to help people develop their skills.
So even if you can't offer them an entirely new role right now, can you create a job swap?
Can you give them a new project in their existing position to help them at least feel like they are still progressing?
It did.
So one of the employees who is in the middle of a job swap right now said he has really loved doing this.
He said he's learning every single day.
It's a new challenge in the role.
And he said he also likes knowing that, hey, my old job is there for me when I want to go back to it.
So he's going to return to his old position in August.
He started this new role in May.
And he kind of goes through the onboarding as if he was a new employee.
He's getting up to speed in this new area.
And he just said it's been really interesting and helpful for him just to take another view of his career, to get another set of tools that he can then apply later on.
And so he said he really welcomed this just because it's a chance to do a little something new.
People just want to feel like they're on a path to something more, that they're on a path to achieving the best that they can achieve.
