And when it was brought in, it made perfect sense.

The problem is that minimum wage continues to rise with each budget because it does get you a lot of political brownie points with the electorate, regardless of the party in power.

But it also means, I think, that you're seeing the rise in wages of people who didn't go to university.

And there are questions over whether this really works as an incentive scheme to sort of get people into higher education to earn those higher wages later on in life.

If when you join the workforce, you aren't earning much more.

than those on the minimum wage.

But certainly we're expecting that increase.

And as you say, that will be quite a good one for getting some much needed political points to see the government through this current choppy period, to say the least.

Of course, the plural of anecdote is in data, and it's difficult exactly to say in such a short space of time how long, how many people have left.

But it certainly does look like we have seen a number of higher paying tax people leaving.

And the questions are, of course, relevant as ever.

We have the same discussions in Ireland over, yes, these people have more money.

Yes, you can tax them.

But what happens when they leave?

And we know it's particularly true in the UK that there's a much higher sort of steeper rate of tax paid if it was your income rises than in other countries.

And so the people with the broader shoulders are ready.

bearing the heaviest burden.

It's the kind of line that plays very well in the press.

But if you tax those who are already paying the most, it's likely that we'll find ways to reduce their tax bill and that ultimately impinges on government revenue.

I think it is, really.
