Yeah, sure.
And I mean, I think it's great to hear at the start that so many people are interested these days because I remember 10 or 15 years ago, most people didn't even know what an ETF is.
Yeah, people have come a long way.
I mean, maybe to start off with, the thing that I always like to understand before talking about ETFs with a client is always their time horizon and their comfort with risk because ultimately that's what determines what we recommend.
But to those principles that you're talking about,
I mean, diversification isn't just a principle with ETFs.
It's for all sort of investing.
And it's just about making sure that you've got different investments.
I would describe it as that respond to events in a different way.
So you don't want a whole portfolio that all are exposed to a recession in Australia or all exposed to AI stocks in the US.
You want different assets that perform differently so that when one's going up, one might not be going up and they all help to counterbalance and give you a bit of a smoother ride.
And a smoother ride ultimately helps people stay invested and stay confident and not lose sleep at night.
And we saw it during COVID, if you just owned, let's say only Australian shares or only US shares, you know, at some point you are staring down the barrel of a 35 or 40% loss in your portfolio.
But if you're diversified and have some other assets like bonds or gold, it actually reduced your exposure to losses by quite a lot.
And that's at the heart of it, what diversification is.
It's not about maximizing your gains, but it's about reducing your risk.
Yeah.
I mean, when I'm talking about ETFs, although there's like 350 these days, so there's a whole bunch of them on the market.
And you're right.
Most of the new listings aren't these traditional market following ETFs.
