getting ready for the fastball has to be the base of your timing.

And I've talked to a few guys about this recently because a trend right now in baseball is a lot of pitchers are throwing three different fastball types.

It's not enough to throw 97.

You got to have a sinker and a cutter as well.

So you're looking at three different movements and things like three different kind of quadrants that you got to cover.

So...

To step back first, for anyone who didn't see that video, why is the getting ready to hit the fastball so important to kind of base your whole timing around?

And then further to that, as guys add in a second, a third fastball, how much does that change what it's like to get ready for the fastball?

Yeah, and I think part of it is like a guy like Schlittler or Drew Rasmussen are having so much success doing it, and you wonder how does a guy throw 80% fastballs, and like how do you, because I get asked a lot, is like if I'm previewing Schlittler or Rasmussen that day, I'll get texts in the text line, it's like, well, why don't guys just sit on the fastball?

So why I'm asking is that like it's it's a little more complicated than that.

Like you can and you can be ready for it the way you're describing.

But with the really, really high end guys, I guess why it gets talked about more is because like it doesn't logically.

I think sometimes it's hard for fans to be like, well, it's just fastballs.

You can you know what's coming.

really playing a contact the the jays did it last year and and got to the last game of the season so um we just have to like learn how to teach these young hitters how to handle fastballs better i think yeah i mean the jays still aren't striking out they're just making a lot of contact on bad pitches that they can't do a ton of damage on right now at least expanding the zone maybe some signs this week that it was was turning around a little bit um

don't want to put you in a spot where in case you haven't seen every at bat, but Cosimo Okamoto is a, is an interesting one because he started out so cold and then had this crazy hot streak and then got cold again.

And he's shown some flashes the last little bit, but he's a guy who's new to the league.

And I know when you joined the Jays kind of, you know, you were hitting for a great average.
