Inside, with another deputy, Grayson orders Massey to remove a pot of hot water from the stove and put it down.
She says, I rebuke you in the name of Jesus.
He threatens to shoot her.
She says, I'm sorry, puts her hands up and ducks behind a counter.
And then she's shot in the face.
Grayson says he thought Massey was going to throw hot water at him.
The other deputy testified there was no threat.
Massey was 36 years old, black, a single mother with mental health problems that had been reported to police.
Grayson is white, 31, convicted in October of second degree murder.
He's required to serve at least 10 years of that sentence.
It happened last Friday near an elementary school in Santa Monica during morning drop-off hours.
Waymo tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration a child ran into the street from behind a double-parked SUV, was hit by the robo-taxi, got up and walked to the sidewalk with minor injuries.
The company says the car detected the child immediately and braked from 17 miles an hour to under 6 before impact.
It says its computer modeling showed even a fully attentive human driver would have hit the child at 14 miles an hour.
The NHTCA says it will investigate whether the robo-taxi exercised appropriate caution in a school zone.
There are two federal investigations into Waymo's illegally passing school buses in Atlanta and Austin.
