People used to ask me about the death penalty in these cases.
In some states, including Florida, have, in severe cases of actual child sexual exploitation, there is the death penalty.
And it may sound severe, and you may want these guys to suffer in prison, and you know how sex offenders are treated in prison, especially those who prey on children.
But I've come to the conclusion...
intellectually, that the death penalty is an important tool in these cases for prosecutors, not just as a deterrent or a threat, but in the negotiations of a potential plea deal.
It allows them to hang this over the defendant's head in a way to enhance the sentence that's agreed to in a plea agreement.
And I think, if for no other reason, I think it's worthy.
I heard something about that.
