Big change for New South Wales, but we think a common sense change.
And it's born out of the fact that there are a million Australians that have a medicinal cannabis prescription from a doctor, 300,000 in New South Wales.
And they're taking it for pain relief.
Many are taking it because they're cancer patients and survivors and they want to have something positive.
that reduces inflammation but doesn't have the addictive qualities of opioids.
And for many, it means that you can't drive at all because unlike other drugs with cannabis, it's fat soluble so it stays in the system longer.
And we've faced a situation where in New South Wales, the police are doing their job.
They're charging people that have the presence, whether they're inebriated or not, the presence of cannabis.
And it's going to court and the magistrates are throwing it out because people have got a lawful prescription.
So we think there's a common sense way forward.
We're introducing the legislation.
