The way this lands for me and landed for me, I think even from the get-go, as someone who, again, as I think we've even talked about before as a kid, I loved any moment where there was a multiversal sort of flash in King's fiction.

Every book that takes place in Castle Rock, referencing previous events in Castle Rock,

blew my mind and then when they would like position it on an actual map of Maine and reference like real places like holy shit maybe you can drive through all of these places like maybe they're really there like I love all of that stuff from just like a very childlike place so for me from the get go reading this moment never made me then wonder oh is King

manipulating everything?

Is there a character of King who's like out there fucking with Roland?

So much as it made me think, if this is a multiverse where literally every reality is possible, then surely there's a reality where I'm a character in a book, where you're a character in a book.

And now this character is confronting the true promise of multiversal theory.

And that now all bets are off as to how many levels of the tower we're going to need to traverse to really get to the top of it, so to speak, from a plot point or from a metaphorical point.

Like now...

literally anything is possible, which, as King has even hinted in afterwards, that means even a story where the heroes don't win is possible.

So for me, it's it's a little less like a cheat and it's more like a all right, we had our grand adventure, but now I need you to strap in for the fact that thinking this is just like a quest for a place.

this has been laid, the path has been laid for us this whole time, that the distinction between worlds is going to get porous and that if we really want to explore what that means, that means that these knock-on effects have to also be acknowledged.

because sooner or later you're going to bump into the very nature of reality when it comes to, you know, fighting for stability and fighting for the linchpin of reality.

Whether or not that bears out, we will see.

But that to me was the kind of promise of this moment that it wasn't like, oh, you know, there's going to be a God character that we're going to have to confront.

But it's like, actually, no, we're all in danger now.

of our position vis-a-vis reader and character.

Now, that's a way to look at it I had not thought of, and I like that.
