It was all part of the the the swinging sixties.

So the Guardian in particular couldn't really didn't know what to do with him.

And he would be there, he would always write his letters to the Guardian.

And

It kind of reminded them that they'd

all the suddenly the sixties generation reminded them that they had betrayed all their sort of libertine values, essentially liberal values, even.

Um, and they just didn't know what to do with him because he would just point out they've all become so bloody prissy and they knew it was true.

And so what what can you do about it?

But he did he did his uh he conducted his activism with kind of a combination of like humor and a light touch.

But then just like just abuse.

It's like just abusing people, calling them dreary, boring, all the every politician you say, oh, they're dreary, they've got no vision, they're not you know, artistic.

It was uh very much about this like the love of life.

That was his thing.

It wasn't in a way even about smoking per se, it was just that smoking was the thing that was being constantly targeted.

And he saw smoking as being an element of bohemia.

I remember hearing him on a radio show.

years ago and I couldn't find it again to mention it in the article, but I was driving along I heard him say something to the effect of, you know, I grew up in Bohemia and I think it's sad that young people can't grow up in Bohemia as well.

But then he says, But the young people don't really seem to mind, so I suppose what's the point?

Uh and of course smoking in itself is not bohemian.

Yeah, a billion people smoke, and most of them are not in any way bohemian.
