I did expect two big players to be going in all likelihood.
Did I expect it to happen this early and before Newcastle have actually completed, they are in the process of completing, hopefully, their first 11 signing.
They've signed a second-choice goalkeeper already.
So I didn't expect it to happen as early as it did.
But the financial reality that Newcastle find themselves in, having failed...
to qualify for Europe for next season having finished 12th in the Premier League there is a financial need to sell players Anthony Gordon was almost to basically be UEFA compliant moving forward Newcastle have been fined by UEFA this week a combined 6 million euros but they've been
agreed to a very strict plan moving forward and so so gordon sale was was necessary for that the tanali sale is more it wasn't the newcastle need to do that to be here for compliant necessarily but if they want to invest as heavily across the team and squad as they intend to then they needed to make another player sale because of the situation that they have found themselves in so it does in many ways the sales themselves and the prices newcastle have got are impressive but
But the optics of Newcastle losing so many big players early in the window when they haven't signed anyone yet, and the fact that Tenali has chosen to go to Spurs, it's not the same as Gordon going to Barcelona or Isak going to Liverpool.
As frustrating as that was in many ways, you could look at it as a Newcastle fan and say, right, yeah, he's going to an elite club.
A club that's just won the Premier League in the case of Isak or for Gordon going to Barcelona.
But for Tenali to choose to go to...
Spurs who'd finished 17th in the last two seasons who theoretically Newcastle many Newcastle fans felt that maybe they were almost on the course to surpass Spurs and try and break into that so-called big six hegemony and really Tenali has chosen to go to London chosen to go there and so that the optics of them really don't look great.
There certainly were on Wednesday in the initial aftermath of when the news broke on the Athletic that the deal had been agreed for Tenali to go to Spurs.
I think there was, from Newcastle fans, I don't think they're so frustrated about Tenali himself going necessarily now because I think it was expected and the fee itself seemed to be a very good fee that Newcastle managed to get.
It could rise to 100 million.
But at the time it was like, all these players are leaving.
Why is nobody coming in?
And so it was...
Yes, there is concern among Newcastle fans.
Now, I don't think it is going to be the necessary mass exodus that all those players you mentioned there will go.
