And that's very much going to govern their transfer policy over the next couple of years.
Very much so.
I mean, that's been part of the strategy this summer.
I mean, last summer Newcastle didn't have a sporting director or an active CEO and they had the worst of all worlds with Isak.
They either should have engaged with Liverpool early on and sort of tried to thrash out a deal or they should have stuck to their guns and not let him leave in the end.
And they did the worst of all worlds.
They waited until right at the very end and then buckled.
Yes, they got buckled.
a British record fee but they then panic spent that and also basically torpedoed their own window in the process so it feels far more surgical this summer it feels far more better thought through I think part of the issue has been the sequential nature of it though the Gordon deal was received positively
Newcastle then sign Ewan Jowan, a young goalkeeper, and it looked positive at that stage.
But then the entirety of June, basically, Newcastle's players have been linked away.
Ternoli's been linked away.
Bruno Guimaraes has been linked away.
They get picked to Victor Munoz, who they thought they were going to sign, by Liverpool, which brought echoes of last summer.
And so the sequential nature of the players going before players arriving, I think, has led to a lot of the negativity that's around.
you have to judge a window by the end of it and Newcastle are adamant that by the end of it they will have brought in some very exciting players and I do think they will and Traore I think will be a very good signing for them but there has been a lot of negativity heaped on in June and basically June has turned into a nightmare month for Newcastle three Junes in a row have been very negative for the club PSR then Sporting Director leaving last summer in general chaos and then this year yeah most of the players basically been linked away and missing out on Munoz so it hasn't been an ideal month for Newcastle over the last few years
Yeah, this is unfortunately contractually obliged.
No, no, I very much enjoy my job generally.
It's been a testing few weeks though, I will be honest.
