So the whole rationale for the blanket pardon was hollow, and yet Susie Wiles went along with it.
Well, and here's the thing.
I mean, this is somebody, Susie Wiles, who her whole history is fascinating, and we can get into that if you like.
He's a traditional GOP Republican.
She cut her teeth as a 23-year-old intern in the Reagan White House, working under Mike Deaver, watching James A. Baker III, the legendary Republican,
White House chief for Reagan.
She was a traditional GOP conservative.
And you would think, presented with an issue like this, pardoning all of these people who attacked, assaulted police officers, beating them within an inch of their lives.
Nine deaths were attributed to January 6th, 150 injuries.
More or less, you would think that somebody with that kind of pedigree in the GOP as a conservative would say, what do you think?
What are you thinking?
How can you pardon these people?
But again, at least she had the discussion.
She made her argument.
And that's perhaps better than nothing.
Well, and of course the really fascinating thing about having grown up as the daughter of Pat Summerall, he was not a sportscaster, he was an alcoholic.
As a young girl, she was involved in staging interventions with her mother to get him into treatment.
He was sober for 21 years before he died, but Susie would be the first to tell you that that was a kind of PhD in dealing with difficult men.
And famously in the Vanity in My piece, she says that Trump has a, quote, alcoholic's personality, end quote.
She means by that that he has this, not that he drinks, we don't think he does, but that he has this grandiose personality and sometimes, you know, belief in himself untethered to reality.
