And he finds a community as he becomes a disciple of a philosophy that spreads like radiant wildfire through an oppressively corporate city that knows nothing beyond the pursuit of wealth.
Pike feels like he is found where he belongs in this group of optimistic idealists and his mentor gives him a shimmering gold gauntlet with a glinting pink gem.
Not long after, Pike is holding his mentor's lifeless body in the middle of a panicked crowd after a single shot had rung out, and the philosopher who changed his life lost the light from his eyes because the corporate authorities did not like what he had to say.
