But I went in there and I was like, I was asking men around me, like, how does it work?
Like, what is it?
And there's very conflicting messages that we get as men for what it means to be a man.
And I think one of the
the epitome of one of those messages is the idea that as a man, you don't let anybody disrespect you.
You don't let anybody like get over on you, right?
But this, I think that the irony of this is that if we follow this definition,
that it is ultimately a path of self-hatred and self-destruction.
And in prison, you see that it's like to the ultimate degree, right?
Because if somebody disrespects you, then you have to meet it.
And then it only just goes to that you're willing to kill somebody or you're willing to name somebody, which actually is just killing yourself because then you're going to do a life bit.
So this idea that a man is someone who is willing to meet anything with violence, I think it's a very destructive force for men.
And I think it's also related to these other things, like not being able to name fear.
I think that men don't feel comfortable saying, I felt afraid.
Like this is another theme that we address in this film that I made.
And where it's like this idea of PTSD, right?
Like I went to see a therapist or I heard about this thing called PTSD.
And I was like, well, what is it?
And I was really, cause you just hear the initials and you're like, I don't know what that means.
It's a condition, right?
