But my mother was extraordinary too.
The doctors thought she was something of a medical miracle to have withstood that many treatments for all of those cancers.
So she was a tough old broad.
She had a great sense of humor, devoted mother, but she was not Nana.
And thank God I had Nana for eight years.
Not in the same way.
Yes.
As I grew older, I grew to love her.
And she and I had, well, there's another part of the story, which is my brother took care of my mother, was an utterly devoted son.
He married but didn't have children.
Utterly devoted, loving son.
I became very close to my brother later in life.
he dropped dead of an aortic aneurysm at the same age as my father, at the same age and for the same reason.
And that nearly broke my mother.
Understandably.
To lose her beloved son.
And, you know, my brother, at that time, he took her to every single doctor's appointment.
I mean, if she needed a...
to have her nails done, every single, but he wouldn't go to a doctor himself.
