My dad had been a um uh a two way uh football player at Hyde Park High School in Chicago, then had a scholarship at Drake to play football.
So he was an athlete.
My mom was a pretty good athlete in her day.
So anyway, but she was the impetus.
She said, Well, just just write down what you did.
You know, like what do I write, Mom?
Well, just write what you did.
And so there you go.
And there is a lot of sports in that diary.
And I did yes, it well, it did sound like I was this, you know, stringer for AP as you as you said, which is what I wrote in Best Seat in the House, that my father-daughter memoir.
And
I just loved it and I was encouraged, you know, absolutely encouraged to do this at a time when most girls were were not.
Uh most w women my age, girls of course back then, were told no, you can't play sports, you can't like sports.
My dad's throwing the baseball with me in the front yard.
I'm the oldest of four kids.
It wasn't her older brother.
A younger brother, two younger sisters, but it was my dad and me.
And learn and learning how to throw the ball properly and cocking my you know, my arm bu hind my obviously I'm not gonna do it here, but I never threw like a girl.
Even though now that's a compliment because of course we're teaching millions and millions of girls and women to throw the ball properly.
