The twelve year old me, I had all the uh you know, encouragement I could have ever needed.

But I never s would have seen um someone like me.

At twelve and so I said yes to everything and did all those interviews.

But that first day I get asked a lot, like what was at April and it was April sixth, uh, nineteen eighty one.

What not that I remember or anything.

What you know

Like what did I w w the momentousness of this, right?

I just wanted to figure out if I parked in the right spot in the parking lot and if I got in the right elevator to go up and get to the sports section in the newsroom.

And, you know, I did.

So, you know, it I I also I my advice often on these things is never think about how high the climb is or the mountain, how high the mountain is.

Just put one foot in front of the other.

If I had thought of the magnitude of this moment and I I do remember feeling like uh sick to my stomach as I got up and like, Oh my god, this is it, this is it and then I just you know, just keep going.

Get in the car, drive to the Herald, you know where it is, you just worked there all summer, eight months earlier, whatever, and just go.

Go in and start the day.

And I wrote a short story, five, six, seven paragraphs about the dolphins ticket prices going up.

Um, and that was my first official byline in the Miami Herald in April of nineteen eighty one as a full time professional staffer uh for the newspaper that I worked with for you know at that point and then for three and a half years after that.

Hm.

I it is tough.

And you've certainly named a few.
