I didn't mean to.
I just made that call that then obviously triggered the Miami Herald to hire me as their first full time female sports writer.
Um, which was a you know, if I I say this all the time, Kevin.
If I if I was a white man, I would not have gotten that job.
And I'm honest about it.
So it's all the difficulties like locker room and access and stuff, but look at the positive.
You know, I I g went right to downtown Miami Herald.
Right out of Northwestern, they put me on the floor to Gator's beach.
Um which was the fall of eighty one.
Back then there's no Miami Heat, no NBA.
No Florida Panthers, no NHL, and no major league baseball.
It spring training and Class A baseball.
Um, the rest of which hard to believe class A baseball was Miami's baseball during the rest of the year.
Um, but no major league, uh, no Marlins.
So it was the Dolphins and then college football.
So they put me at twenty-two onto one of the biggest beats in sports, the Florida Gators.
And um I felt good about that.
I knew I I felt I could do it, right?
Um, it turned out there was a lot of attention to this and there were TV stations wanting to come and interview me and they did.
Uh and the Herald had them come on in and I said yes to everyone because again, you know, I'm picturing the twelve year old girl on the couch with her dad.
