I worked in student affairs.
You have to have a master's degree in order to really have any position beyond a coordinator level position.
And so the master's degree actually allows you to even be at a starting point.
And so if you don't have one, you will not even be able to begin or to be able to start.
Now, what I think is really important though, is looking at all of those experiences that you've had from your master's degree.
The learning that you've had, the projects that you've had, potentially the internships or the practicums that you've had, maybe the fellowship projects.
Those are all experiences, whether it's a master's degree or it's an undergraduate degree.
And so your ability to translate that is super critical to your success.
Now, when you're looking at what level you should go in at, though, that's where I think you want to be generous with yourself.
make sure to cast a wide net, start at entry level and maybe go up a little bit into mid to early level and see where you're netting out.
Where do you seem to get the most responses?
Where are you getting the most interest?
That will help you calibrate and iterate on that.
Then of course,
actually network, meet people, build relationships.
And in those conversations, this is a question that you should be asking.
I have a master's degree.
I have X number of years of experience before that, or I don't.
