As I got older, I learned a lot about the Eagles and our family.
I learned that I come from three generations of diehard Eagles fans.
Since the creation of the Eagles in 1933, the men in my family have been devoted to supporting them.
Like me, being an Eagles fan was chosen for them by the fathers before them.
It was handed down like a family heirloom or a curse at times, as our birds have had many years of discouraging moments, like the loss in the 1981 Super Bowl to the Raiders, the year I was born.
My dad blamed me for that loss, claimed he couldn't receive two blessings so close to each other.
Funny, when he said it, I never felt like I was a blessing.
My grandpa always said, there's a lot that comes with being an Eagles fan, never forget that.
He would look down on my young frame and say,
We're known for being aggressive, no bullshit fan base, and have even been described as rabid and uncontrollable quite a few times throughout history.
A smile would curl at the corner of his lips, and maybe we are, he'd say as he gripped my shoulder tighter.
Shit, we throw snowballs at Santa, and when I was growing up, we were the only NFL stadium to have a jail built under it.
A lot of Cowboys fans got beat up at the bat.
He was proud when he talked about this history.
I could see him reliving those moments of his younger years while attending Eagles games.
The more of the history I learned from my grandpa, the more I embraced the culture and identity of what being an Eagles fan meant to him and guys like him.
An in-your-face, aggressive, Dallas Cowboy hatin' motherfucker.
I was all in.
