we can only study conversations about this one type of topic because in the beginning like we didn't know what we didn't know.
There was so much all we had was sort of like uh it sort of started with like gut level intuition and we did a bunch of like one on one interviews to sort of understand the space, having the
ability to to talk to people that are having a variety of conversations helped.
Helps sort of crystallize.
the different types of dimensions of of response quality that matter in different types of situations in a way that like it's it's like um like normal UX research.
You want to have a diverse set of users to talk to because that the diversity in itself helps helps you form multiple perspectives.
I think we were beneficiaries of that in the beginning because we were studying such a wide variety of conversations that we we had all these different
different perspectives and now now we've found ways to narrow it down a little bit, but I think having that wide breadth to begin with was was pretty helpful.
It just reminded me when we did these
this first round of this about a year ago, maybe a little bit longer.
There were some like myths maybe about like what what a good user experience was for Copilot.
And I think that was, I mean, I can't speak for everything, but it it seems like maybe it was a little bit like informed by more like personal preferences or very influenced by the the people who were building the product.
And I think what what these evals did is
It was like this one, two, three p punch of like qualitative video clips of people talking about about how they use Copilot with with specific examples, like where they're they're walking us through like a specific conversation they're having and then talking about
like and then measuring with quantitative data, like why they like this this response versus that response.
And it was like this mountain of data that like became undeniable that I think busted some of the internal myths.
And uh, you know, th my Microsoft's a big company, but uh uh but even even big Microsoft had a lot of a lot of these like sort of um assumptions about what would be what a good user experience would be.
And I think that
It's true yeah.
huge company or whether you're like a tiny startup starting out.
