One of the amazing things I heard from an investigator as we were reporting out this story is that he estimates that m the majority of funds that are stolen from Medicaid at some point exit the United States of America.
And so we're making people rich all around the world.
We're not improving health outcomes for America.
Americans and politicians like Gavin Newsom just kind of skate on the top of it, hoping that no one will notice.
Yeah, that's a really important point.
And there's an old Milton Friedman line that I think summarizes this dynamic very well.
He says, uh, in effect, when person A uses the money of person B to pay person C, uh, the incentives all across that transmission line become skewed.
And then people don't have a personal sense of interest.
Like if it's money coming into my bank account, I'm gonna actually be pretty careful about it and pretty concerned about it.
But if I take
your money and give it to this person, and I never see that line of transmission, I'm gonna have little invested in keeping that system accountable.
And so when you have a rapid scaling up of the size of government, you're inevitably going to have a rapid scaling up in fraud.
And so we're seeing that throughout the system.
And look, the left has very shrewdly pivoted from woke one to woke two, the cultural frame
On race and gender, to this economic frame on affordability, Medicare for all, et cetera.
The right has to come up with a powerful counterargument.
I think that's counterargument is to show exactly where that money ends up.
It ends up in the hands of people like Curtis Kirkova or Nigerian fraudsters or Somali uh autism scammers.
Uh and so that to me is a really important story.
That we have to be hammering on.
