And there are it's interesting the way that it has kind of like
uh over time and as culture has become less like uh monotonous uh or singular um there are these other kind of like icons of music that represent different things and it was very it was very slow i mean if we really wanted to get into it someone um s a band like coldplay is actually in the tradition i feel like this break kind of happened in the 80s
Um probably with you two, to be honest.
So here you go.
It's it's the the idea is essentially like, you know, you have Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and we expect something of them, right?
Um and and then suddenly you have Bono who is like, I am going to just be sincerity incarnate, which is probably why it's so funny.
People like I love you too.
And people are like, Oh, Chuck, what what the heck?
It kind of makes sense when you think about how much I love sincerity.
Mm-hmm.
Um, but that kind of branched off into, I do think, a different kind of like uh
prototype of a rock star that was just like full-on sincerity.
I think uh U2 has been around long enough that there's been eras where um people have found it like the sincerity has like kind of not been the same.
But for the young buckers listening, like just so you know, when like Joshua Tree and like Unforgettable Fire and all that stuff, U2 was a punk band.
They were a very sincere punk band.
So uh times have certainly changed in a lot of ways, but along that journey, I do think there are other.
prototypes and I think when the bombshell really really drops is when someone from a different like prototype of of uh you know uh fame is revealed to be kind of monstrous.
That's a such a good that's actually the example I was going to give is that he was known for being like Mr.
Kindness, right?
And and I was gonna use the example of like if if something happened with Bono like that, it's it's just very different from like, oh, we heard that like big news uh Mick Jagger like destroyed a hotel room and was an asshole.
