I remember being in the waiting room, Brendan, in Temple Street Hospital, and you see the other children, like, and you'd be grateful for Elsie May, like, you know, she's the best in our class.
She's listening.
When I collect her, the teacher might say to me, I say to the teacher, is she?
She's in pyjamas tomorrow, are they?
She said, how do you know that?
We didn't organise that yet.
And I said, Elsie taught me.
She said, she's listening to us when we're talking.
I suppose when my brother passed away and stuff, this little girl came into my life.
I love the name Elsie May.
My faith.
Number one, I always had faith in my mother.
And again, as I spoke, my grandmother there as well.
I always had faith.
And I had faith from the days, the dark days in that storeroom sitting on the mop bucket.
I used to be reciting the Apostles' Creed.
That kept me sane.
But the religion kept me sane.
The religion book stuff kept me sane.
So I always had faith.
