I had no idea.

What did you do?

Did you do theatre then?

You do films.

Were they staged?

Do you mean social status?

I think that happened, probably.

But, see, then I think they were ideas I had sort of maybe previously.

to theatre and then theatre was a kind of a way of maybe exploring certain things or

maybe a better way to say it, is studying and working in theatre that made me conscious then of certain feelings I had pertaining to, say, the South.

Because, you know, when you're working in theatre, one of the big things you have to do is create a character, build a character, and there's lots of techniques around that.

And as I was kind of working with those kinds of ideas and techniques, I became aware then of what perspective was behind them in terms of how Southhood is kind of thought about, you know, as a sort of a paradigm, I suppose.

And I found some of them, I suppose, you know, a kind of a famous one would be the kind of Stanislavski, you know, technique.

for an example.

So there's all these sorts of ideas and of how to sort of, you know, construct a character and how to make this sort of theater construct in some way convincing and persuasive.

And as it went on, I felt less and less enthused and connected to this sort of process because it didn't really,

connect at all with my sense of selfhood at all and I became quite alienated then from what I was doing and I didn't really enjoy it anymore and I didn't want to do it anymore and then but I still kind of liked theatre you know I did kind of still like it and I thought well that's a bit strange because you seem to like theatre but you don't really seem to like plays very much

So what's going on there?

But as Ben has sort of touched on, there are these other things sort of going on that aren't necessarily so reliant upon this sort of setup where a person on a stage necessarily represents another person.
