So the book is The Rain Shadow Orphans.
Our hero in the novel is Toshiko.
She's a 17-year-old spy.
Can you introduce us to her?
As you said, she and her adopted brother and sister, they really want to take revenge on this crime gang, particularly this guy that killed their adopted mother.
At the start of the book, she steals something from this man.
She steals this pearl.
Tell us what this pearl can do.
Yeah, I really love the idea of this pearl that enhances whatever you're good at or bad at.
What do you think the pearl would do for you, Naomi Ishiguroo?
Well, I did read in the acknowledgements at the back of the book that at one point this novel was kind of in pieces.
You'd pulled it apart so far that you didn't know how to put it back together again.
And of course, you've committed to two more books.
You know, it says very proudly on the first page, you know, this is the first of three books.
