Uh we do that every year in winter and the community bands together and donates a whole range of pre loved winter clothing and accessories and
quality bedding or curtains that they don't need anymore.
As you know, some parts of North East Valley can get pretty cold um in the winter.
So with support from New World Gardens and the Amazing Kiwi Harvest, we're able to put together a community lunch and bring together service providers like the Dunedin Curtain Bank and Otago Mental Health Support Support Trust and the Bedding Bank and others to
to really help people in the community connect with, you know, ways to keep themselves warm and healthy and their homes warm and healthy throughout the winter.
That's uh one of our local initiatives that we do each year and the community makes that happen.
Um we have a weekly Kai Share programme which is supported and run predominantly by volunteers from the community.
And um we couldn't do that without the generosity of Kiwi Harvest, which of course is an amazing food rescue organisation that uh partners with us to deliver that.
So every week we deliver Kai to rescued Kai uh Rescued Kai excuse me to thirty eight Fano or households every week.
So that's
sort of reaching about a hundred and fifty to one hundred and seventy two people um every week with food and um we even go uh so far as to put any extra stuff in a box for chickens.
Some of our community members have chickens so
Oh yeah.
Um, if there's uh Kai that isn't quite up to standard to give away to uh to Fano, we'll um put together a chicken box as well.
So we're making the most of everything that we get.
Uh we also have a wonderful um crop swap initiative that happens once a month and that's really about um kind of building food resilience, getting people sharing what they have in abundance instead of throwing that out or putting that in the la in landfill.
Um
People learning from each other, building skills around growing and seed sharing, building curiosity about local food production and easy techniques that people can use at home for preserving or pickling or making their own yogurt.
And it's really awesome because it we really see how that builds uh a sense of community.
There are people who come to that every month.
