Coming up this morning, this is a show with a bit of a difference.

Inspired by one of my guests, who you'll meet on the show a little bit later, we're going to take a look at the prison system in Ireland, health and wellness within it, or lack thereof, discussed with three people who work supporting inmates.

This, I feel, is going to be a very special one.

I'm going to be joined in a moment by Ruthanne Barry.

Ruthanne is a mother, a lived experience advocate, a justice reform consultant and purpose driven coach whose work is rooted in empathy, empowerment and real change.

We'll also be joined by Brian Penny, a former addict and now neuroscientist who works with Oberstown Children Detention Campus to talk about trauma, anxiety, addiction, self-belief and self-care.

And Deirdre O'Donnell, who's a child and adolescent psychotherapist, a breathwork teacher and a play therapist and a Tides of Change facilitator in Limerick Prison.

So because this show has a bit of a difference, this is a big topic with three brilliant guests and I'm keen to get into it with them and give it as much time as possible.

So I'm actually not going to give you my health and wellness week this week, but suffice to say, I'm good.

Now, I want to caveat this chat, knowing that thoughts around crime and prison can be triggering and divisive, particularly if you have been a victim of a crime.

I believe there is no such thing as a bad person.

Often people's behaviour is tied to

to trauma.

And I believe the prison should be a place of reform, restoration, repair over punishment.

But I understand that that can be a difficult concept for people.

But that is the lens through which we are going to hold these discussions today.
