And so for Dennis Allen to step to the podium...
and to explain exactly how they're going to get better without adding more talent.
I found it to be fascinating.
I found it to be interesting because this isn't some first-time defensive coordinator.
He's a guy with over two decades of NFL coaching experience under his belt.
So it's like I want to believe what you're saying, Dennis Allen, but at the same time, my eyes aren't lying to me in terms of what I've seen the players on your team do in the past.
So now I'm kind of with my arms crossed.
watching what transpires between now and really the start of the regular season, but more importantly, once the regular season starts.
Layla, when you hear him say, we're going to kind of circle back next year and have the same approach, that's a good thing.
Because guess what?
Every year, as a coach, as a guy who is tasked with coaching young players especially and getting them better, you're supposed to be saying, what could we have done differently to make this even better, no matter how good it was?
But my issue is that's only a piece of making the defense better.
What about the talent level getting better and up to a level where you're not depending just on the scheme, but you're depending on guys, as you said, winning one-on-one matchups and just doing their freaking job?
That's the difference between me and you.
You have a little bit of skepticism.
I have a whole lot of skepticism.
I am the biggest skeptic right now of this entire approach of what one of our texters just texted in talking about this being a spin that Ben Johnson and Dennis Allen are putting on it.
And look, you know I believe in Ben Johnson, right?
But you wouldn't have to do the same thing if you went out and got more talent and upgraded the talent level of your defensive line.
And we can't predict that the Bears are going to have an entire healthy team.
