You know, you all rode up in an elevator today to this podcast for what the folks in those communities needed to know.
And obviously, this would be like an extended event in the real world.
But for the benefit of our listeners, starting with Haley, I guess, and then going across, what did you really want people to take away?
Well, and I mean, again, talking about the scale, it's my understanding that when you look at the health care cuts contained in the bill, you know, we're talking about nearly a trillion dollars out of out of health care, which it's just and you can define that however you want.
And it's my understanding in the bill that a lot of it's done through various kind of
you know, as you say, April, weedy kind of provisions.
But a trillion dollars, I think, get a lot of money.
And Haley, turning to SNAP too, because I think that's kind of a sleeper part of this because people have heard about the healthcare stuff.
You probably know there's some taxes in it, but talk a little bit about the SNAP piece.
Well, and I think this is one of the things that I, you know, because I wrote about pieces of the bill over the months as well.
And I think it's one of the things that folks don't quite understand is you can take any single piece of the puzzle and make it seem sensible sometimes or make it seem attractive.
The issue is the way that these work requirements, for instance, are something that always sound very appealing to people.
But once you dig into the actual facts of the matter, most of the people who receive public assistance already work.
Very few people want to just sit around the house and do nothing, number one.
Number two, the real reason for most of these things is that by adding
hoops for people to jump through or obstacles for them, people drop out of the program.
I mean, that's the real point.
The real point is not that people are not doing these things.
The point is that you're making it more difficult for people to actually access this stuff.
Which is a huge part that I wish more people talked about, is that the reason this bill is cutting a trillion dollars out of health care is because they have these added requirements.
