Well, I suppose I was going to say at the same time I can remember that, of course, we had budgets following the crash where income tax actually went up and USC was introduced and all that.

But in recent years, last year was the first I can remember when there was...

Pretty much nothing for income tax payers because all the money went to VAT cuts, as we know.

So it's a big issue ahead of this budget and a lot of stuff on social media.

So I just decided to kind of outline the figures for people.

And like most things, I suppose there's twists and turns in this.

What matters to people, I suppose, is the difference between their gross pay, what their employer gives and what they take home.

So if you look...

the average worker in Ireland and compare that person to the average worker, single person to the average worker in the OECD.

We're talking about kind of 50, 60, kind of 1,000 euro, which is taken as the average full-time salary.

Good salary, isn't it?

55, 60, it is, yeah.

So those people pay roughly the same in Ireland as a single person in income tax and PRSI, as does the average across the OECD.

And of course, there are huge differences in that average.

But it's worth breaking that down a little bit.

And there's a few things, I suppose, that are worth noting.

One is that the Irish system is pretty generous to people on lower earnings.

How many are outside of tax nets?

We've taken 10,000 more people out of the tax net.

I'll answer your question now, but remember that after the financial crash, one of the things that the IMF and the other bailout agencies pushed us to do was to bring more people into the income tax net, mainly by the introduction of the USC.
