So that gives an extra 200 million odd.

There might be some costs on the other side of the equation there as well from various things, reliefs that he has to renew.

But he has a bit of extra money there.

And he has indicated now, I was at his press conference recently on the mid-year returns, and he has indicated that...

Simon Harris has indicated that he will focus a lot of money on income tax and particularly on the rate at which the higher tax plan kicks in.

So if he does that and doesn't do other things, if you like, that gives him a bit more room for manoeuvre.

But one issue is going to be that

If he increases the standard rate band, he really has to give something as well to the middle, lower earners who aren't going to benefit from that move.

So in other words, if you're earning below 44,000, increasing the ceiling is worth nothing to you.

So he's going to have to either jiggle with the USC as well or perhaps more likely increase tax credits as well to give something to those middle lower.

And that's going to cost as well, you know, each 50 euro increase in the standard tax credits costs, you know, a couple of hundred million.

So...

The numbers are going to add up, but it's going to be difficult.

So I think number one, he's going to focus his fire probably to make it seem like he's made a difference in the entry point.

And number two, I think we've already seen how he's going to talk up what he's going to do over a series of budgets.

And we have heard this before as well.

But he's going to say over the term of the next few budgets, this is going to happen.

Now, of course, Simon Harris will be gone from finance.

Of course he will.

He'll be Taoiseach.
