Will they extend them partially?
Will they extend them for a few months?
I don't know, but you would be surprised unless there's a really big fall in wholesale prices in the meantime to see them.
to see them disappear completely.
They do, yeah.
Now, we're into the old story of this year and next year here as well.
So the key thing for the budget sums is going to be what happens next year.
So the question for the government, first of all, is it willing to spend more this year?
taking less tax this year you know the same thing i suppose does it think that perhaps it has a bit of leeway in the budget surplus this year that will allow it to do that some people say there's perhaps a bit of underspending on state investment compared to what's in the budget that might be you know there just might be a bit of leeway in the budget sums they reckon for this year and they may plan look by next year maybe we won't need to renew these again
All departments have been asked to cut back, haven't they, because of the overspend on education?
You know, the VAT 9% was phased out three or four times before it was phased out and now it's back again.
And remember, that's actually coming into effect over the summer as well.
Costs a whack of money.
Now, that's baked into the figures, but that's going to cost more next year because it's a full year cost.
This is one of the things IFAC have said, that actually if you look at the budget sums...
And look at the likely overspending and look at things like the VAT.
There's precious little room for manoeuvre.
So I think this decision on the fuel will play into that and ministers will be trying to work out, first of all, can we afford it this year?
But what's it going to mean for next year?
If we extend it, are we likely to be able to phase it out completely by the end of the year or partially or what's going to happen?
