There's no legal
barrier anyway on what companies charge.
There's no price controls on petrol, but we don't see any particular evidence of gouging.
And likewise, it appears that kerosene prices are coming down as well.
So home heating oil, probably not a time of year when people are filling up their tanks anyway, but prices are starting to come down or should start to come down there as well.
So that's good.
But as you say, the government's a big decision to make.
It introduced excise cuts in two lumps, if you like, in the spring.
The
Cumulatively, 32 cent a litre for diesel and 27 for petrol.
So it's a pretty big amount.
They run out at the end of July.
I would guess that the government is going to sit tight for the moment.
As long as it can.
And see how prices are going to...
are going to pan out, you know, maybe the deal will be done and prices will fall much quicker than expected.
It does, yeah.
But some of the stories, I suppose, will play out over that period about, you know, how likely the tax is going well, how the tax is going badly, how quickly are oil tanks being refilled, what's happening to wholesale prices, all things that's kind of hard to forecast.
Your guess, I think, would have to be, given the heat around this area, that they will extend these cuts in some way.
Will they extend them fully?
