In my guise, and I've served with every type of person on the front line, you know, whatever colour, creed or whatever else.

And, you know, on the front line, we're all colourblind.

We're all blind to whatever your sexual orientation is.

It's all about the ability to fight.

And I fought with them all.

And quite frankly, it makes no difference.

Absolutely makes a difference whether somebody is good or brave or whatever, those sort of backgrounds.

So I think that is really dangerous.

What is critical is that when people are recruited, they pass the test.

If you're going to be an officer, you pass the All-Army Selection Board, fine, you're through.

Same in the Navy, same in the Air Force.

There shouldn't be a different level for a different part of society.

And I think people realise that.

And it's ridiculous because it's actually what's in here, not what's on your skin that's important.

But I think recruitment has been an issue.

I mean, I could...

reel off many stories of people who should be in the military who are not.

In fact, I sat next to a lady the other night whose daughter was a consultant surgeon in the NHS.

She's always wanted to join the army, absolutely desperate.

But because she took some mental health drug, and I haven't a clue what it was, when she was 10 years old,
