And I was on the I was involved with the commission when the national competition was formed.
There was no chance of it being a fairly
allocated bunch of teams because everybody wanted their teams in it.
And so the the early AFL competition was the VFL expanded somewhat.
Um now you've got a situation now where people in Victoria seem to regard the continued existence of their teams as a right.
Basic.
football supporters should be guaranteed that.
But the very s the same people who argue that on the base of equity don't seem to give a stuff.
about the interstate teams, storied famous more than a hundred year old teams like Norwood or Southwick Mantle that were I d y described them as road kill on the way to the national competition and I don't think that's fair.
I was a reluctant starter because as you know there are many opinions in football and I didn't know that another one would be adding anything to it.
But uh I was persuaded to write it because I've actually seen some extraordinary changes.
When I first got involved in football, the competition was completely broke.
There were twelve teams in Victoria.
Um none of them had any money.
The competition was broke.
Uh football was only played on Saturday afternoon, or almost only played on Saturday afternoon at ten past two.
Uh the grounds were all dilapidated.
Um there was no T V against the gate or very little of it.
Um and the competition was being run by representatives of the twelve clubs, which was clearly uh not a very smart way to run a competition.
