And this came, you know, originally this came as I think an objection that people would bring up to imperativism that I've now embraced as a virtue.
So 'cause the idea is take some of the other what I think of as imperative sensations, so all these bodily sensations like hunger or thirst or the f need you know, the need to breathe, something like that.
Um
Mild hunger, I think, uh, does not feel particularly bad.
It's not it's certainly not painful, it doesn't make you suffer.
Uh you might not want to have it more than you want to have it, but it's not a f it's not a bad feeling in that sense.
And well, that'll confuse it.
I mean some sometimes it might even be a pleasant feeling.
But in any case
You know, if hunger is an imperative, uh, then it seems like imperatives don't necessarily feel bad.
So there's a question.
Uh why is it that pains do?
And I think and I in the book that of course, although most pains feel bad, in fact that's a contingent relationship.
Um so I think this is something that the imperativist has to say.
Uh but I also think there's good independent reason to adopt the distinction.
So
Got this distinction between, you know, in one of
call in this context physical pain, which is what the book is about.
Um so the pain that you get when you drop a brick on your toe or something like that.
