So there's a lot of different types of ponds.

And the classic...

description of a pond is something that more sunlight can get from the top to the bottom.

So it could be the size of this, this whole vicar street.

But if it's shallow enough, you'd call it a pond as opposed to a lake.

But there's also ephemeral ponds, which could be the size of this table, or like I said, a shoebox, that tend to dry out during the summer.

They're really important habitats.

Then there's other ponds that are just covered in leaves, and they're swampy, and they're stinky, but they're brilliant for hoverfly larvae called rat-tailed maggots who breed through their arse.

And they're fantastic little bugs.

So all these different things, to answer your question, there's all sorts of different ponds.

So that bucket...

that's sitting there, and if it's holding water, and it has some algae growing in it, and it has some Daphnia in there, it's essentially a pond.

Is that a pond now?

It's essentially a small little pond.

Wow.

So we had a great movement we were doing for a while, we were calling them micro-ponds, and we were taking, when the flowers come out into your florist shop, they come in these black, you've seen the black plastic tubs?

All them get thrown out.

They're not recycled or anything, just thrown out after the flowers are out.

So we were taking them and doing pond building courses.
