I mean, for people of a certain age, you know, older than me, even this guy was the poster boy of Irish swimming and Irish Olympic sport in the 80s.
He was a well-known face.
He was a well-known figure.
He was in charge of two Irish teams at two Olympic Games.
And, you know, to think that we had him, the country, we had him before in 1993 and he slipped out of our grasp on a technicality and left the country, I think, pretty soon afterwards and has been on the run pretty much for, not so much on the run, but, you know, he's been looking over his shoulders for 32 years wondering if this day would overcome.

And like, again, listening to Chalky yesterday, a couple of the journalists that have covered the story, I think none of them ever had any real confidence that this day would come.
And it's a really important day for this country.
And it's important that people know.

And, you know, when you read the evidence of the case over the last couple of weeks, it was fairly heartbreaking stuff.
You know, when a woman is talking about her younger self after being abused by this guy, saying that she felt really bad because he had a wife and a family and she felt it was her fault that she had done something wrong to his wife and family.

so look it's great that we've got to the point where we have this man has now been convicted but that this could have been done over 30 years ago shouldn't be glossed over
I mean, there must still be a great sense of regret that he's been able to live the vast majority of his life a free man, you know.
