This pathological need that we had to fit in really kind of stunted our growth dramatically.
It stunted our growth because you had situations where families would avoid talking to the alcoholic.
Every family had an alcoholic and nobody spoke to them.
Every family had narcissists.
Every family was enmeshed.
Every family, you know, all these systems and things, all these events and things were operating not from... Like, God, I remember so many events in our family, you know, which at some element, like, were beautiful, you know, when we would all gather for 70th birthdays, like 70th wedding anniversaries, things like this.
We'd all...
so many of us traveling from all over the country to be at these events.
And at one level, it was beautiful that you could gather that amount of people.
But I just don't think
that we have the kind of the capacity to do that anymore.
I just don't think that we can tolerate all of that strange energies that would gather in those group situations anymore.
There's something about our new sensitivity, which just doesn't allow us to go along with these tribal ways anymore.
Like when you think about so many of these events, for example,
There were people who really wanted to be there.
And then there was a lot of people who were just there out of a fear of duty and obligation.
This sense that they had to fit in.
