The impossibility of life in such an inhospitable place is felt, and the vulnerability of the characters, safe only in their little traveling tin can in a wild world of danger is conveyed.
Now I had just mentioned Daylight Dread.
So when I think of that, and by which I mean horror movies, horror scenes which feature the daylight prominently, you know, y you can't help but think about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, um, mid-somar, you know, movies that that there's just something so unsettling.
when the horror is on full display under the brightest sun possible.
And that's what we're getting here.
You know, we we are conditioned to believe that
The horrors and the danger can can only come out at night, um, that there is uh rules to the universe and to the the the cosmic balance that um we are safe with the sun, um that the sun somehow equals radiant goodness that that that that burns away and and shines um its its light and protection, um keeping the the darkness at bay.
the darkness being evil itself, um and that the the the monsters emerge
from from the shadows of night, from some infinite pool, um, where where the the shadows and night itself connect to to some greater infinite darkness of of chaos and and evil.
Um which is why
why stories like this matter.
Um, because they they they shake those those beliefs and that concept and it forces you to to reckon with
horrors existing in the every day, literally the day, the everyday.
Um and somehow it it just makes it so much stranger and harder to watch when those horrors are inflicted when there are no shadows, when you are supposed to be safe.
Um and so this is a a smart decision on King's part.
Um and later
on McGarris's part to stay true to this aspect of the novel, to
set most of it during the day.
Um and the the the most hard hitting parts of it do take place during this opening stretch um of the day.
