You get uh daylight and you get uh this this this juxtaposition of the horrors with absolute beauty.
You know, the the the wide open sky that you see is beautiful.
It was a shot.
Of Kali getting out of his car with the whitest clouds stretched across the brightest blue sky.
The colors pop.
And you feel the beauty of the world, which, of course, is in stark contrast to the horrors that are soon going to exist within it.
And here we get the reveal of famed character actor Ron Perlman, who I believe is making his Stephen King debut here.
And this is great casting.
I mean it's Hellboy, everybody.
There's something so likable about Ron Pearlman, which is why he's so well cast here.
Because while at first he's able to disarm you with a little charm, that deep gravelly voice, his size, they all work to to create a feeling of such looming danger.
Clancy Brown also would have been incredible in this role.
This disorientation of what to expect continues as Kali alternates between friendly and unpredictable, seeming to want to help them fix a license plate situation, but then immediately starts spacing out.
And of course, there's the use of the word tack, which finds itself inserted randomly.
What does this mean?
Garus wisely lets the word do the heavy lifting and doesn't dwell on it, and doesn't have the characters remark upon it.
Unfortunately, Kali finds the bag of pot in the van and starts shouting for them to get in the police car.
Whatever friendly nature he may have exuded is now replaced by hostility, and he drives them down the road, uh which also includes other stranded vehicles.
He drives erratically, and as he reads them the Miranda rites, he slips and says he will kill them.
