I often think that there are a lot of people who don't quite understand how the media works.
And we have this grand lofty thing in the Constitution of freedom of the press, but not everyone is a journalist.
Not everyone knows what that's like.
So therefore, it's like, well, that's not something I have to care about because that doesn't apply to me.
So it's incumbent upon journalists to explain what they're doing, to do it well, or at a time where it's almost impossible to make a mistake, because one mistake notches down journalists, like, it digs them six feet under.
So being able to explain what they're doing, doing it well, and doing the work of holding them accountable, exposing things, and sticking to that, I think that demonstrates journalism's weight and its power, and that keeps it going.
Yeah, I was going to say that that is that's what alienates so many people is that when.
When people are platforming things that they know not to be true and engaging with those thoughts, that's giving those thoughts credibility.
And that alienates people because they're like, well, now I can't trust any person involved in this conversation.
Even if it's someone who's done a lot of reporting as an expert on this topic, by engaging with that to them, they look at that as wrong.
And I think where a lot of journalists erred over the last two years or so
is just not listening to their audience enough not engaging them hearing how they're feeling and giving a voice to that therefore when they see them at these roundtable shows on cable news or whatnot um they they don't feel like they're represented there or their perspectives are represented versus being able to have that one-on-one connection with an independent host
uh independent media like here uh and feel like they're being heard because then they know that they can trust the person they're talking to because they can talk to them and engage with them and hear their perspectives um shared and learn something new and i think where a lot of journalists have to figure out is how do you balance that while also dealing with an administration that's so adamant about shutting down
the profession entirely through some of their actions.
The White House says that they want to give rise to independent voices.
A lot of the independent voices in their new media seat come from conservative media.
And that's the thing.
We saw a question in the new media seat the other day questioning whether the Clintons murdered somebody.
So it's you see how the White House is choosing what they want to engage with and what serves them and their interests and what audiences they want to reach.
And you see journalists trying their best to hold them accountable while also making sure that people know what they're doing.
