That's who Shane Doan is.

He's just an incredible caretaker, a culture guy, and perhaps someone that Vancouver needs in that respect, given what's been going on there recently.

Well, there was that one time.

I wrote a series of stories on Shane before his Jersey retirement.

I called it 19 Days of Doan, and I literally wrote 19 stories.

One of them

was the time that Shane did, in fact, get drunk.

And it was when he played his 1,000th NHL game.

They decided, you know, he had to have a drink to celebrate the team playing.

And for some reason, when you talk to Shane, and he's confirmed this, the one alcohol that he likes is Sambuca, which is beyond questionable.

It's horrible.

So he does a shot, you know, he starts with the players.

Okay, oh, you got to do one with me.

You got to do one with me.

And then he works his way up to the media section of the plane and Shane gets absolutely hammered.

He says Shane is lying in one of those, you know, the bathrooms in the airplanes with the accordion doors and his legs are sticking out.
