I mean I let me just start by saying I don't I don't think we should underestimate the agency that we have in applying regulation.
I think there has been a sort of sense that, well, for example, all innovation is good.
Well, no, not all innovation is good.
In all kinds of other areas, we we block innovation in certain areas and we encourage it in others.
You know, there are there are aspects of nuclear power, for example, where we are very restrictive on how nuclear power can be used or how nuclear materials can be used.
You know, you could argue that allowing, you know, more freedom with that could create, you know, additional health treatments and so on, but we're very restrictive on how it allows it to be.
Um but I think also, you know, I mean I I think there are there are examples where you can actually use regulation to drive innovation in the areas that are most important and block it in the areas that are least important.
Because, you know, as we're seeing with this whole concern over investment, there is a limited amount of capacity the world has.
And there is a real risk in a sense that you go down a rabbit hole and you actually waste a large amount of money on certain things and you don't actually do
the innovation in the places that you do need to do it, for example in terms of managing cyber risks and so on.
It's also really important to have regulation to ensure there's competition.
And it's also crucially important to have regulation, particularly for those countries that aren't at the cutting edge, to ensure that AI in their environments is used in the way they want it, to serve their people's interests.
And I think this is a really crucial thing for Europe as well as developing
Countries.
And in in a way, one of the outcomes of our research was that actually many emerging economies and advanced economies, other than the U.S.
and China, are actually in the same place in this.
They all need to have the right kind of regulation to ensure that AI is used correctly and to their interests in their locations.
And I think this is one issue where, you know, for example, the U.S.
administration, President Trump, has threatened to put tariffs on
Countries that apply digital services taxes, and in some cases, uh, countries have kind of backed off as a result.
