They do him a bit more justice in the extended cut, but yeah, I get what you're saying.
Sure, I can understand, like, cutting down really long segments or, you know, trimming down really convoluted stuff to make it more digestible.
I think the problems creep in, though, when you change the fundamental meaning of it.
I think everyone would concede for whatever liberties Peter Jackson took with Lord of the Rings.
he got the essence of the story 100% right.
Whereas you could say, well, if you change the very characterization of Odysseus from the Odyssey and his motivation for wanting to get home, you've lost the entire meaning of the story.
It becomes something very different now.
That's a different kettle of fish for me.
So, um...
He doesn't have a reputation necessarily as an actor's director.
From what I'm told, he pretty much just says, right, there's the script, figure it out yourself in terms of your performance.
That's why so many of the characters in this movie, so many of the actors, should I say, just seem to be on autopilot.
Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, he's just playing Jon Bernthal.
Every other tough guy character he's ever played.
Tom Holland is just Tom Holland.
Like, that's arguably the worst performance I think I've seen of his entire acting career.
And again, he's a good actor.
But in that movie, he gives absolutely nothing.
Because Christopher Nolan doesn't direct people.
He directs ideas.
