And like you would have met people who were of a similar mind and had maybe had high expectations of themselves and were being encouraged to go on to college.
No, well, that was always the thing.
Like, you know, the point of having role models is not just because of the aspirations and the, you know, if you can't be, you can't see a type of thing, but also like very practical help and support.
So, you know, if I had wanted to be a plumber, lots of my neighbours are plumbers.
They could have been very helpful and supportive and got my kind of foot on the ladder.
But as you said, I wanted to be an economist.
There's not as many of them.
So what made that a reality for me was the academic support I got in CityWise, which helped me get the points I needed to get into a course like BESS.
But also, like, the confidence that being in Citywise gave me.
To be honest, a large part of all of this is realising that, like, the people that go to college aren't that clever.
You know, it was about, you know, in your mind, you think you have to be Einstein to go to Trinity or whatever.
But in reality, like, you don't.
And if I could do it, anyone can do it.
Yeah, well, I mean, part of that is family.
Like, there'd be a good tradition of people working in the community, my family, and a big kind of, I suppose, trying to think of others before yourself type of approach.
But again, like, I'd give a lot of credit to my own involvement in CityWise where, like, once you're in secondary school in CityWise, you get a little bit of responsibility.
So, you know, Dara, your job is to make sure the footballs are pumped up or the bibs are put back.
And in a way, you're trying to build up kind of a Muslim memory of volunteering and being involved in your community.
So once I went on to study economics, I would have came back and volunteered in CityWise teaching maths and a bit of Leaving Cert economics.
And you're just kind of, it makes it normal because in CityWise, if you were training all these young people to go on and do weird and wonderful things, it'd be great for the individual.
